Materials for movement:

The work is informed by exercises intended to cultivate physical and perceptual embodiment and use of the dancers own form, in relationship to their environment. The physical work uses skeletal imaging and movement, with particular focus given to the spine as the root and limb for extending spherically and dimensionally into space. The perceptual work researches the genius of the senses, and the use of the senses for improvising. The purpose of the class work is to extend the participants experience and use of their own body, sensation, and action.

Contact Improvisation Studies:

A course in CI principals and practice. Appropriate warm ups focusing on action and release of the dancers tone and dynamic, in relationship to gravity, momentum, mass, falling, recovery, and reflex, in order to bring a state of flexible and aware facility, to dancing in contact with a partner.
Basic studies focusing on the spherical use of the dancer's form cultivate the fundamental principal and use of the rolling point. The duet work creates opportunities for movement and support that can be athletic or sensual, depending on the participants use and interest of the form. The practice of
CI trains the dancer both physically and mentally to be in a state of preparedness for movement and choice making, in relationship to the physical world. Encouraging the genius of the reflexes and senses, to participate in the dance making process.

Materials for the Spine:

Classes in Material for the Spine examine and research the use and function of spinal movement in relation to the anatomy of the dancer’s body. In particular, the shoulders, skull, and pelvis, and the rotational properties therein.
The classes engage in technical exercises in combination with anatomical imagery, breathing, and some improvising and exploration (dancing) with the materials.
Contact improvisations may be used to demonstrate in practice the uses of the spine as limb.
The classes encourage an awareness of spherical dimensions, and use of the dancer's body and movement.
